Please welcome Ben Hayes to the position of the 2009-2010 Central Region Venturing President. Ben is from Simon Kenton Council and lives in Delaware Ohio. He is a proud Eagle Scout and is currently President of Crew 318. Ben served the Central Region as the Area 4 Venturing President for the 2008-2009 term. Ben is a freshman at The Ohio State University where he plans to become a nurse in a children's hospital.
Ben started his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub and moved through Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and currently is active in Venturing and is assistant scoutmaster of his scout troop. As a Boy Scout, Ben has experienced many high adventure activities: he has participated in treks at Florida Sea Base, Philmont, and Northern Tier. In addition, he attended the 2005 National Jamboree, 2006 BSA/SAJ Friendship Program in Japan, the 2007 World Scout Jamboree in England, and he will be attending the 2010 National Jamboree as a staff member.
As a Venturer, Ben has earned his Sports Bronze, Outdoor Bronze, Gold award and Silver Award. He has completed Wood Badge, attended and served on staff for VLSC, completed Kodiak and has taken the Course Directors Conference training for Kodiak. During Ben's term as Area 4 president, Ben traveled all around the country and co-chaired the Area 4 10th Anniversary of Venturing event, X Marks the Spot. He has many Venturing activities planned for the summer, including a Sea Base trip, and is looking forward to an exciting and productive year as the Central Region Venturing President.
He is always available to assist councils and areas in starting Teen Leaders Councils, promoting Venturing to prospective youth, and offering inspiration and guidance to existing Venturing officers, volunteers and professional staff advisors.
