GOALS
- Continue to develop the organizational structure of Southern Region Venturing
- Support the 2008-2009 Southern Region Boatswain in achieving her goals
- Support the National Venturing President, and be an active leader on the National Venturing Cabinet.
- Establish Regional Venturing service projects
- Expand leadership development opportunities for all Venturers
- Emphasize environmental activism throughout Southern Region Venturing
- Promote international Scouting
- Represent Venturing at Southern Region events
- Model my personal commitment to the Venturing program
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Continued to develop the organizational structure of the Southern Region Venturing by:
- Leading Area President training
- Scheduling Area trainings, and developing training materials
- Orienting new officers of the VOA (new Area Presidents and new Advisors)
- Continuing to distribute an "occasional" (monthly or more often) informational letter to the SR VOA
- Communicating individually with Area Presidents and Executive Committee members
- Supporting the SR VOA newsletter editor in producing additional issues of The Venturer
- Supporting the SR VOA webmaster in preparing the new SR Venturing website for uploading
- Continuing to post occasional "Reflections" about SR events and people on the SRVP page of the NVC website
- Establishing Facebook groups for all Areas, supporting Area Presidents in establishing Facebook groups for Councils in their Areas, and increasing memberships and usage of groups
- Preparing a guide for the 2009-10 SR Venturing President
- Preparing a guide for Area Presidents
- Revising/updating the guide for SR Boatswain
- Designing a process/appointing a committee to collect information for "best practices" in organizing Council and Area VOAs in the Southern Region
- Drafting changes to the bylaws of the SR-VOA Executive Committee
- Appointing a committee to revise SR VOA bylaws for adoption at the June 1 transition SR VOA teleconference
- Moderating the SR VOA teleconference on 3/29
- Participating in the selection of the 2009-10 SR Venturing President
- Beginning orientation of next SR VOA President
Supported the 2008-9 SR Boatswain in achieving her goals by:
- Contributing to her developing directory of SR SS Ships
- Recruiting staff for the Leukemia Cup Regattas in New Orleans
- Promoting SR Sea Scouting at Marlinspike CDC's
- Representing the SR VOA at Apollo Beach Regatta
Supported the National Venturing President and participated on the National Venturing Cabinet by:
- Promoting Venturing as the Regional Director, Synod of the Southeast, of the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters; to the GA Native Plant Society; to GA State Park officials; to Shooting Sports enthusiasts
- Assisting the National Venturing Cabinet in making arrangements to attend Winterfest
- Submitting requested reports on time
- Participating in the National Venturing Cabinet face-to-face at Winterfest
- Participating in the online NVC discussions on the NVP selection process and the training of the next Cabinet
Established Regional Venturing service projects by:
- Matching Leukemia and Lymphoma Society events to local Council VOAs through Area Presidents and/or personally
- Participating on the staffs of several Leukemia and Lymphoma Society events, including Leukemia Cup Regattas
- Fully staffing the Service Project Committee of the SR VOA
- Opening conversations between the BSA at the national level and other organizations with which the BSA might partnership in the future, including the Hands On Network; state park officials developing natural playgrounds for the "Last Child in the Woods," and environmentalists participating in the International Global Warming, Child Health, and Youth Leadership movement.
Expanded leadership development opportunities for all Venturers by:
- Participating in VLSC for new Crew leaders
- Promoting Area and Regional leadership opportunities at VLST, AAC
- Recruiting leadership for Kodiak courses in Areas 5, 7 and 9
- Completing Kodiak CDC
- Presenting models for environmentally themed Kodiaks to Regional Kodiak CDC coordinators and to participants in the SR Kodiak CDC
- Presenting models for environmentally themed Kodiaks to Venturers and Advisors in selected Councils of the SR
Emphasized environmental activism throughout SR Venturing by:
- Expanding relationships with the Ocean Conservancy, and soliciting an article for the SR Venturing newsletter
- Developing relationships with Stone Mountain Park and Panola Mountain State Park for offering Ranger elective training and Hornaday projects (with and without Kodiak training)
- Recruiting environmentalists to serve as Hornaday Advisors in Areas 4, 9
- Participating in the Hornaday projects of Venturers in Area 9
Promoted International Scouting by:
- Continuing correspondence with Direct Service Council Venturing Crew in Kuwait , and soliciting an article for The Venturer
- Multiple World Friendship Fund collections
- Presenting the SR VOA International Scouting Promotion to Council International Committees, in person and in correspondence
- Being appointed to the Atlanta Area Council International Scouting Committee
- Promoting Jamboree on the Trail, May 7, and participating in it
- Completing appointments to the standing committee on International Scouting Promotion
- Recruiting additional Venturers to attend WSJ in 2011 in Sweden
Represented Venturing at multiple SR events, including:
- Shot Show, Orlando, FL
- Winterfest, Gatlinburg , TN
- Regional Marlinspike, Powder Horn and Kodiak CDCs at Monteagle
- Winter Southern Region Board Meeting, Tampa , FL
- The International Conference on Global Warming, Child Health and Youth Leadership

- Multiple Leukemia and Lymphoma Society events

- Completing Kodiak/Kodiak X CDC; Shooting Sports Bronze Award; Quest; Ranger Award; Sports Safety Training Instructor certification; Wilderness First Aid Instructor certification
- Completing requirements for the SS Quartermaster Award
- Completing requirements for the Hornaday Bronze Award
- Completing all relevant online training modules: Fast Start (Boy Scout, Venturing), Troop Committee Challenge, Youth Protection Training (Basic, Venturing version), Climb On Safely, Trek Safely, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, Weather Hazards
- Improving my leadership skills with public speaking coaching, and peer counseling training
