Matthew McGroarty is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, and has been a member of scouting ever since the first grade. Matthew earned his Eagle award at 14, continued to stay active in his troop, and has attained 13 palms. He is active in his Las Vegas Area Council's (LVAC) Order of the Arrow lodge and is a Vigil Honor member. Matthew joined Venturing the day he became eligible to the program. Over the past five years, he has earned the Ranger, Quest, Trust, and Silver awards. Matthew is also currently the LVAC's Venturing Officers Association (VOA) president. Matthew has been with his council's VOA since it was first started four years ago and in 2006, he was presented with the Venturing Leadership Award from the Las Vegas Area Council.
Outside of scouting, Matthew is currently attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he is studying for a degree in business focusing on entrepreneurship while also studying law/history and music. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys reading, writing, backpacking, hiking, building models, playing 14 different instruments including piano, violin, and banjo, and growing the business he started with his brother and friends.
